Easy ways to pay off your student loans

It’s that time again – your semester is slowly coming to an end and you do not only fear the exams waiting for you but also the student loans you have to pay back. Unlike an exam, they are not just done and over with but likely to stick with you for the next ten years of your life. However, there are ways to ease the stress and lift that huge loan stone off your shoulders, at least somewhat. Stating the obvious first: do not put off your down payments for your loan. If you are already working, determine a certain amount per month that you put aside just for that purpose.

You will be surprised how manageable your debts will seem. Also, if Mummy or Grannie decide to give you a little extra cash, don’t spend it on new sneakers, add it towards your loan now and you can buy five pairs of new shoes every month in a couple of years. You do not have a job? Then look for one – or two. Working part time, or even only sometimes on the weekends is perfectly compatible with your studies and it will help you save money for your loans already. Of course, we are not talking working full time in a bank but tutoring or freelancing are things you can easily do and  which will additionally help you with your studies.

In the end, whatever you decide to do, do not forget to pay that minimum balance every month. Because forgetting is so easy and so is slipping into debt.

Refurbishing the home – more than just spring cleaning

Spring is not only about to come – it has already arrived. The first days with warm temperatures accompanied by bright sunshine have started to effect big changes in our bodies and souls. We feel a very certain power that we thought to have lost during the long and cold winter – and this makes us move and long for anything which is new, fresh and beautiful.

This season works wonders: It pushes the reset-button and starts our inner motors. It sparks off interest not only in dusting the wardrobes to get space for new garments but also generate the urge to refurbish house or appartment.

We want to repaint the walls and ceilings, look for a new floor coating and nice pieces of furniture.

If we could, we would start immediately with renovation or redecoration. However, most people are experienced enough to hang on and make up their mind first: What do I actually intend to change, how much money and time can I afford to spend?

You should really plan how to proceed – it´s the only way to co-ordinate the individual steps and to guarantee that the colours and styles of wallpaper, floor covering and furniture finally match. Do not renovate several rooms at one go – just pick one, start work and finish it before you set about the next one.

No matter if you redecorate the salon or your bedroom, the hall or the kitchen – first of all decide on how to design the walls, ceiling and floor of a room. Then move on with purchasing the material you need or look out for craftsmen who will carry out the work. After that you can buy the new pieces of furniture.

Take your time for all the steps – and don´t push yourself to hurry up. Even though spring fever seems to make people speed up with anything they do, you shouldn´t rush things when you redesign your residential environment.

Spring Cleaning for your Finances

It is that season again – the days are getting longer, we are filling up with more energy and it is time to take out the duster and start the spring cleaning. But this year make sure you start in your financial closet. How many years of spider-web covered statements, unsorted bills or tax declarations do you have stuffed in there over the last decades? It is time to give your finances a brush-up.

It is easier than you think! First of all, organize your paperwork with only three folders: one for financial statements, one for credit cards and the last one for the rest. Then get rid of any bills older than six months. Next step: take a good look at your investments. Do you really need all these fonds? Is there a way to combine some or sell others? Fact is: the less diverse your investments are, the lower the fees you pay. Now it is time to review your expenses and find new ways to save money. Some tipps: Look at how much you spent on Christmas presents.

A lot? Well, it is easy to cut down on costs here without cutting down on gifts. Just buy your presents throughout the year – at sales or even after Christmas where you can get great bargains. Another advantage: this way you do not have to panic about presents two days before Christmas. Also, consider the back road – does anybody owe you money? Are there any financial benefits a company, a fund or an insurance still owes you? Think also about government payments that you have not accessed yet but are just there waiting for you. With those few tipps, cleaning can even be fun!

Handbags and women – a relationship of its own

Handbags have always been one of the most important accessory to complete a woman´s fashionable outfit. They are by far more than a handy case made to contain typically female items – things that a woman needs to take with her to manage her everyday life.

From the very first beginning of their history handbags have been inevitable – but it was only about fifty years ago that they finally turned out to be an item of fashion.

Especially by the beginning of the 21st century they revealed their potential as a symbol of status and a style icon. For sure not every model has got the „voltage“ to become a dream handbag for a fashionable woman – it needs to be more than a „transport container“ and an example of great design and craftsmanship. There must be something special about it…something that cannot be defined properly – for instance a popular brand, a famous designer or a fascinating story.

That´s why classic and luxurious handbags by Hermes, Chanel or Dior never get old-fashioned. On the contrary – they are even more popular nowadays than they used to be in the first years after their creation. Some models are still manufactured – and do not only sell to upper class ladies who can afford them easily, but more and more also to „hard working girls“ of all ages rewarding themselves by making a handbag dream come true. If you keep your eyes wide open walking through the city centres you will perceive the famous „Kelly bag“ by Hermes as well as the renowned quilted purse by „Chanel“ – maybe not too often and they dangle at the arm or shoulder of various types of women. But feel sure that all of them have one thing in common: They are „fashionistas“ and they use and treat their handbag with the utmost love and care.

Mankind and fashion

The history of clothing is not as old as mankind. The first human beings living on our planet were naked – and started looking for something to wear just in order to protect their body. They needed shelter from cold, wind and rain – and therefore used animal skins and furs to keep warm and dry. It took them dozens of thousands of years to find out how to turn plant fibres into cloth, but nevertheless man had already used the time for catching interest how to dress up.

Even Stone Age people were already trying to make more of the mere necessity and to look as attractive as possible. It might seem ridiculuos to us – living in the 21th century – that the „primitive“ beings were thinking in terms like „beautifully dressed“ or „fashionable“. Perhaps they just used the opportunities offered by clothing to bring out or emphasize their positive physical attributes. That was pretty important because we all know that the more attractive a human being the bigger the chance to find a partner for reproduction.

Unfortunately we do not know in how far males used to be interested in fashion in these times – or maybe they didn´t bother at all. But it seems logical that it was more a female business as women were considered to be the beautiful sex. A man´s identity was more represented by powerful and dominant performance – so it was up to the women to attract the guys. They did so not only by wearing suitable clothes, but also by embellishing their appearance with jewellery and make-up.

Certainly fashion was luxury in these times – and people did their best to make it affordable. No question that they couldn´t make it to change their „style“ every season, and surely enough they had neither time nor a splendid „budget“ to help themselves to several different outfits – but maybe they enjoyed fashion as much as we do now.
