Identity

One of my favorite things to do every Sunday morning is to hear the Word of God preached. I was in my home church over the weekend, the special speaker made the point that we exist for God, God doesn't exist for us. Simply put; but we as Americans sometimes think everything should go our way just because we're Americans. Doesn't God exist just for me?
I'm reading Because He Loves Me by Elyse Fitzpatrick, a quote from her book helps me focus on what really matters.

"It's so easy to completely forget
who we are: sinners saved by grace--created in the image of God for his pleasure--weak and dependent creatures who must rely every moment of every day on his grace and mercy."

I am his, he is mine, and I've been cleansed from sin, that's my identity.
